Julia Whitney Brown

BIO:

Julia Whitney Brown was born in Alton, Il on December 26, 1986. She graduated with a BFA in Fine Art and a BS in Education in 2015 from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. She was a post-baccalaureate in sculpture from Penn State University in 2013. She has completed numerous residencies and assistantships including working as a studio assistant at Peters Valley Craft Center in New Jersey, for Black Mountain College artist Karen Karnes in Vermont, studio potter Susan Bostwick in Illinois, and most recently as the Studio Manager at The Clay Lady’s Campus in Nashville, Tennessee. Julia has participated in several artist residency programs including Chautauqua in New York, Vermont Studio Center Residency, and was awarded a grant to study at McGill University in Montreal. She was accepted into the Stamps Graduate Program at University of Michigan for interdisciplinary studies, but chose to move to Nashville where she is partnering with Old School Farm to employ individuals with intellectual disabilities to create hand-made pottery. She also serves as teaching artists in Watkins College’s Community Education Program.
